Destiny Bay 'Magna Praemia' 2024, Waiheke Island
There’s no mistaking the surge of ripeness and muscle that frames the bouquet of this wine with fat, juicy blackberries and currants, chocolate and fresh date, cedar and vanilla, clove and black cherry, wild violets and a stony clay-earth suggestion. There’s a gentle reductive complexity. A full-bodied dry wine on the palate with a concentrated and detailed mouthfeel. Flavours of dark berries, wood smoke, earth smoke and spices are set amongst myriad fine and polished tannins, a spine of acidity. Very lengthy and delicious with best drinking from 2035 through 2048+.
