Stonyridge 'Larose' 2021, Waiheke Island
Dark red and deep purple core with ruby purple rim. The bouquet is powerful and concentrated, complex, earthy and very specific. After 15 minutes in glass the wine begins to unfurl with core scents of violets and purple fruits, spiced plums and cacao, smoke and a deeply earthy seam of stone and clay. There’s a distinctive Bordeaux-esq theme with the mushroom smoke and violet layers then a clear NZ freshness through the ripeness of fruits and reflection of vintage. Dry, full-bodied and complex, a wine that is in the midst of its early development with a firm structure from bold, ripe and polished tannins, plenty of texture, then an equal level of acidity and overall power. An outstanding wine should be enjoyable when young with the clear potential to develop over a lengthy period. Warm and generous, complex and lengthy, best drinking from day of purchase if you like or from 2030 through 2040+.
