Louis Moreau Chablis Masterclass with Anne Moreau

Held at the new United Cellars offices in Auckland

Louis Moreau Chablis March 16th, 2026

The lovely Anne Moreau leading the tasting: a brand that began in 1814. Louis Moreau is her husband, the 7th generation up and coming and primed to take the reins from Anne and Louis sometime in the future; 52 Ha in total, a dedication to Premier Cru and Grand Cru expressions; 5 separate parcels of Grand Cru . Global warming has affected the region, “…we are harvesting sooner, now we have to go faster - ripening very quickly, 2025 began on 28th August. Powdery Mildew can be an issue. We refer to left bank and right bank for the 1er Crus”, we have been practicing organics since 2004, no oak from 2013, says Anne.

Thanks to the team at United Cellars for making this tasting possible

Petit Chablis 2024. Fragrant, delicate, floral and for me  a super-fine lees quality, sandy soils, there's a natural saline seam adding complexity. A bouquet with lots of charm. Nice attack on the palate with a high impact from acidity then flavours of citrus and fresh apple,  flavours become more floral as the wine warms on the palate. Delicious, fresh and ready. 2026 through 2029. 91 Points - Premium

Chablis 2024 . A lovely delicacy with an urgency and mineral quality framed by a blossoms and white flowers quality. Chalk and blossoms, lees and honeysuckle quality then a light gun-flint suggestion. Salivating and delicious, fine, floral and lengthy. Classic, fresh and lively. 2nd and 3rd taste builds the ideas of salinity and minerality. Fruits of citrus, pith and peel, lots of lemon and apple. Delicious, if you like Chablis, lengthy and well made. 93 Points - Excellent

Les Forneaux 1er 2023. White fleshed fruits and citrus then a mineral drive, a whisper of white clay, there's a more deep and intense layer of complexity with a saline scent - this shows more definitively on the palate; a satin texture and a fine lees honeysuckle quality. As the wine opens out in glass, a silkier more rounded mouthfeel develops. Quite lengthy and persistent, chammomile on the finish. 100% MLF. "Besides the warmth there was great balance and more minerality". 93+ Points Excellent.

Vau Ligneau 1er 2024. “A little leaner on the left bank;' 1979 upgraded to 1er”, says Anne. Delicate white flowers are immediate with scents of sweet lemon and white apple, some pear and elderflower then snow pea and chamomile ideas. Crisp, dry, salivating, silky and persistent mouthfeel. Delicious, fresh and urgent with the acidity driving texture and flavour appeal. “Only 50% MLF”, says Anne. Medium+ length, persistent and classic. 94 Points - Excellent

Vaudesir GC 2022. Rich bouquet, very floral and dense, scents of pear and apple, then a citrus peel quality, ripe and mineral core, quince and apple. As the wine develops in glass there's a richness that emerges from the lees and spice ideas. Fresh, dry and satisfying. There's a more urgent quality too, a mix of textures and mealy form [from] the acid line. There's an intensity to the acidity that builds across the palate. A delicious wine. 94 Points - Excellent.

Les Clos GC 2022. “There are 24 Proprietors of this Grand Cru, we have. just 3Ha, producing 8-10 k bottles PA”, says Anne. Very elegant wine with a sur-lie quality, on lees for for 18 months. Fragrant and enticing, classic and deliberate, there's a subtle creaminess on the nose from the winemaking - it is excellent. Dry, ultra-fine tannins and acidity mouthfeel, lean and refreshing, intriguing and complex. Ultimately this is a wine of purity and. Immense style with a voice of place. A light saline seam on the finish. Fabulous and ready, and will age well. 95 Points - Outstanding.

Blanchot GC 2021. “We have just 1 Ha, in a good year we might get 600 bottles”, says Anne. Now this is a great and bold Chablis bouquet, Chamomile and density, deeply mineral and volumous. Flavours of citrus and salt, chalk an apple, some quince and lots of spicey lees qualities.  There's a cheesy like quality too that ushers in the acid line to carry intensity and power of the site and winemaking style. Outstanding, lengthy and utterly delicious! 97 Points - Outstanding.
