Babich 'Irongate' Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc 2019, Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay
There’s no mistaking the bouquet of Cabernets with rather intense scents of blackberries and sage, tobacco and dark plums, Then scents of baked stones and dried herbs, pyrazines, violets and a touch of coffee bean. On the palate a dry full-bodied wine with a developing set of flavours, some youthful echoes and plenty of complexity. Big tannins and a decent acid line along with oak all frame the core fruit flavours of plum and blackberry, olive and violet then stony earth. Still developing some cellar time left, or just great food with fresh protein available. Best drinking from 2029 or day of purchase if decanted and through to 2034+
