Barlovska Feijoa Vodka, Kapiti, New Zealand

An interesting bouquet framed by a mineral and gentle fusel moments then a feijoa skin quality kicks in. A mix of earth and bark then arrive. Uncut on the palate there’s big rush of alcohol and takes a while to settle. When this happens the clear feijoa skin and earthy qualities begin to unfurl. The texture is a little coarse for me. Cut with water the fragrances change dramatically to lose the fusel notes in favor of fruit and ginger, preserved flowers and honey. Softer and silky textures emerge showcasing a vodka with a nice point of difference. Best enjoyed over ice or with a very mild tonic or mixer.
