Carrick 'Excelsior' Pinot Noir 2022, Bannockburn, Central Otago

Great colour and even greater bouquet of pinosity, intensity and complexity. A window into the vintage and style that is Carrick. Scents of plums and cherry trees, earthy with a core mineral scent of stone and marl-soils. Complex and detailed. A dry wine touches the palate with flavours of red stone fruits and spices, mineral and French oak smoke and complexities. Tannins are firm yet release easily on the palate building mouthfeel without compromising on the fruit. Lees and some gentle woodsmoke, plenty of wood spice and acidity, pinosity and length. Delicious, a wine for enjoyment today or continue to cellar with best dirnking from 2027 through 2037+.

First made in 2005, five years after the inaugural Carrick Pinot Noir, Excelsior is a selection of the finest barrels from harvest. This wine is derived from Carrick’s oldest vines and original clones 10/5 and clone 13 planted on their own roots in 1994, this wine is from a selection of just 7 barrels after 10 months oak maturation, then return to French barriques for a further 18 months, blended, bottled, rested and released when ready for your cellar.
