Malacate 'Ancestral' Tequila Los Altos de Jalisco, Mexico
Every now and then, and frankly quite rarely, comes a tequila that speaks of place and time, attention to detail and mostly importantly tells the story of the people, their place and attention to detail.
This is a silver tequila with a nose of purity and complexity, subtle scents of earth and spice, wild white flowers and crumbled stone, then agave and green melon skin. On the palate a satin touch and gentle warmth (there’s zero harshness), a surge of power from the fruit, floral, spice, a salty qualities. Then the spirit transitions into a rhythm of mineral and agave fruit then melon. Delicious on its own, perhaps cut once with a small cube of ice. For me a spirit that does not need to be adulterated by sodas of juices. Just sip slowly and often.
