Moutere Hills Syrah 2023, Nelson

Varietal, ripe and fruity with a bouquet of fresh blackcurrant and Doris plum, a layer of fruit spice and new (ish) smoky wood adds complexity and allure. On the palate a nicely dry wine with core fruit flavours to reflect the bouquet along with violet and a touch of peppercorn. Soil-smoke suggesting clay and stone and a fine lees quality adds complexity along with polished tannins and decent backbone of acidity. A lighter-weighted style with suits this expression, lengthy and well made. Best from early 2026 through 2030.
