Destiny Bay 'Destinae' 2022, Waiheke Island

A deep core of opaque purple with a ruby rim and plenty of stained tears leads to a bouquet of violets and dark berries, wood smoke and baking spices. There’s a mix of blackberry and blackcurrant then plum and dark clay soil ideas. The oak smells of toasty wood and clove then vanilla. On the palate a dry wine with a full-bodied frame, flavours of Doris plums and blackberry then chocolate and toasty barrel spices. The tannins have polish and power, acidity is bold carrying flavours of fruit and contrasts the youthful frame of the wine overall. Another example of excellent winemaking from the Destiny Bay team. Best drinking from today or best from 2029 through 2040.
