Tantalus Voilé Reserve Syrah 2017, Waiheke Island

Aromas of sweetness of fruit and complexity, a stone and delicate pepper quality, black currant and black berry, and a white smoke oak and baking spices. Dry and delicious, a wine that immediately reflects mineral earth and a core of red berry fruits, there’s a whisper of pepper and leather, balking spices and plum. As the wine opens out a floral side emerges with a touch of violet and rose. Firm tannins and acidity set a decent foundation in place and the fruit does the rest. Well made, still ageing, a wine best enjoyed from 2024 through 2030.

Side note: The cork broke in half easily when retrieving. I have removed many corks from wines over the last 35 years, you could say I am an expert at it. This wine was too young to have this happen. Be sure to store wines closed using cork on their side.
