Villa Maria Ihumātao Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2019, Auckland

Complex and intriguing with aromas of sweet grapefruit and wild red apple, the layers of new wood spice are contrasted by sweetness of fruit and suggestion of stony clay soil scents. On the palate - equally complex with a Burgundy-like mouthfeel, judicious use of oak and barrel ageing, a core of fruit and medium+ acidity. Great texture also from fine wood tannins, some gun-smoke and wild flowers. Delicious with a satin texture and youthful energy. Best drinking from late 2021 through 2026+.
